State of the Union 2019
Florida Lawmakers will face a number of issues at tonight’s state of the union. Senator Rick Scott invited the father of a student killed in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting. Representative Charlie Crist will also be in attendance. He will be joined by the wife of a coast guard member whose family was affected by the government shutdown. Senator Marco Rubio will be in attendance with an exiled Venezuelan, and representative Kathy Castor will be accompanied by the chairman of the NAACP board of directors.
Redfish are returning to the bay area
Redfish are returning to the waters that were impacted by red tide. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is releasing thousands of fish this month. Duke Energy and Florida Coastal Conservation are also assisting with the efforts. Four more releases are scheduled this month throughout the Bay Area.
- Feb. 7 – Cockroach Bay Ramp in Hillsborough County at 11 a.m. and Fort DeSoto Park in Pinellas County at 3 p.m.
- Feb. 12 – Sarasota and Charlotte counties.
- Feb. 19 – Lee and Collier counties.
- TBA – Manatee County.
Toddler tragically dies in parking lot accident
A toddler has died after being hit by a car in a parking lot. The accident occurred at the Citrus Meadows apartment complex in Bradenton. Police say the boy was waiting by a family car with his siblings when we walked off between cars. He then fell into the path of a car that was making its way through the lot. The child was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Officers say that speed and driver impairment don’t appear to be factors in the crash. Five Seffner businesses burglarized
Five businesses have been burglarized in Seffner. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office says someone smashed the front glass doors of each business to gain entry. The five locations were Martha’s Family Restaurant, Martha’s Ice Cream, Salon J, TK’s Custom Cuts, and Secret Place Nail Salon. The suspect also shut down the power and turned off all the cameras at all of the five businesses. New USF Health Women’s Center ready for patients
USF Health has announced the opening of a new all health center. The Pamela Muma Women’s Health Center will begin seeing patients tomorrow. The new women’s health center is designed to offer health care needs to nearly 700 patients. Philanthropist Pamela Muma donated the two-million dollars that made the facility become a reality. Pamela Muma and her husband Les Muma are the university’s largest benefactors. As they have gifted the university over $56 million to benefit numerous programs in academics, athletics and health.
