Video Released of Lakeland Shoplifter

Lakeland police just released new video of a Lakeland city commissioner shooting a suspected shoplifter.

On Oct. 3, Cristobal Lopez tried to leave the store carrying a hatchet. Michael Dunn fired two shots at Lopez. Lopez died at the scene.

The state attorney’s office is now trying to decide whether Dunn should be charged.

Humans Attacking Sharks

Two men have been accused of dragging a shark in a viral video. Robert Benac and Michael Wenzel are accused of torturing the animal.

Their attorneys, Courtney Ettel and Stephen Crawford, told a judge that more time is needed to prepare for the trial. The attorney said that the state prosecutors have yet to hand over all of the discovery material they requested. The next hearing is in December. The goal is to start the trial in January 2019 per request of the judge.

In the video, two men are seen laughing while pulling the shark with a rope and violently whipping it around.

Department Store shutting down

Sears filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. The company has been struggling to compete against online stores like Amazon.

So far, the company announced that 142 stores will be closing including Kmart. Closing sales started Aug. 30. The stores will be closed by November.

Two Sears department stores will be closing in the Tampa Bay area including Bradenton located in the DeSoto Square Mall and Lakeland store located on 3800 Us Highway 98.

Hurricane Michael Relief

The Tampa Bay area has continued to provide relief for those affected by Hurricane Michael.

The Tampa Bay Rays collected donations at Tropicana Field on Sunday, Oct. 14 and Monday, Oct. 15. They received items like bottled water, food and batteries. The items will be delivered to the panhandle next week.

Our four-legged friends are getting help too. Sunshine Animal Hospital in Clearwater rescued dozens of animals from a shelter in Georgia. The Animal Hospital brought back 22 dogs and 27 cats. The shelter is seeking out foster homes for these animals.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

On Monday, Oct. 15, the Cypress Lake Senior Community washed cars from golf carts to SUV’s raising money for breast cancer research. More the 1,200 dollars has been raised and is going to the Polk County Cancer Society.

The Community washed many vehicles and the oldest car washed was 75-years-old. The group has been raising money for breast cancer research since 2011. October is breast cancer awareness month.
